National Grid urges people to recycle refrigerators, freezers

The city of Providence and National Grid have set up eight refrigerators in prominent parts of the city.

Is it a new way to get residents to think cool thoughts? Sort of.

National Grid and the City of Providence want residents to think about recycling old refrigerators and freezers.

On Tuesday at Kennedy Plaza in Burnside Park, Mayor Angel Taveras and Michael Ryan, vice president of government relations in Rhode Island for National Grid, unveiled one of those refrigerators — with a big orange hippopotamus painted by Andrew Sloan — to kick off the utility’s recycling-awareness campaign. http://www.projo.com/news/content/PROVIDENCE_FRIDGE_EXHIBIT_07-20-11_O4P99CC_v22.4ec83.html
